Peter Christie was appointed our Organist & Choirmaster in July 2016.
Playing the organ since the age of 14, he has played for congregations in the Episcopal Church (St Bride’s Hyndland and Holy Trinity Haddington); the Church of Scotland (prior to his appointment at All Saints, at St James’s Paisley); the Congregational, Methodist and Baptist churches; and the Roman Catholic Church. I was organist at St Mary’s Collegiate Church in Haddington (well worth a visit if you’re in the area) from 2004-2012 while working in Edinburgh. Since returning to the West Peter had been deputising at various churches while searching for the right place to settle, we are delighted he accepted the offer to join us.
Training choirs is one of Peter’s great musical enthusiasm – he has been fortunate to have had a number of church choirs which grew in numbers and musical skills while he was in charge. Being the conductor of the Helensburgh Oratorio Choir for a few years, and conducted and played for several ‘come and sing’ massed choir events.
“Please feel free if you want to come and watch at the console while I’m playing the closing voluntary – it’s not something many folks see – but please don’t expect me to be able to speak while I’m playing!”
He is more than happy to speak to people once the voluntary is over.
